Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working together.

About My Services

What's the difference between beta reading and proofreading?

Beta reading is a big-picture read focused on the plot, pacing, character development, and the overall reader experience. I’m reading as a reader, not an editor.

Proofreading is about the technical details, like spelling, grammar, punctuation, and consistency.

It will include overall impressions, organized notes by category (plot, pacing, character, etc.), specific examples pulled from your text, and a reader experience summary.

I read most genres, including fiction, nonfiction, romance, fantasy, mystery, thriller, literary fiction, and more.

The one exception is horror. It’s just not my thing, and I believe your beta reader should genuinely enjoy your genre.

If you’re not sure if I’m a good fit for your book, just ask!

I keep my client load intentionally small so every project gets my full attention. I typically take on 2–3 projects at a time.

If I’m currently full, I’ll let you know my next availability.

About the Process

How do I get started?

Just reach out through my contact page and tell me a little about your project. It helps if you can include the title, genre, word count, and what you’re looking for. I’ll get back to you within two business days to talk through the details and see if we’re a good fit.

The easiest way is Google Drive. Just share a folder or document with me directly.

If you prefer a different method, just let me know!

A Word document or Google Doc works perfectly. Just make sure it’s readable with standard fonts and spacing.

I don’t offer rush services. Every manuscript deserves careful attention, and I want to make sure I give yours exactly that. If you have a tight deadline, just reach out early, and we’ll see what we can work out.

About Pricing & Payment

How does payment work?

For beta reading or proofreading alone, a 50% deposit is required before work begins. The remaining 50% is due upon delivery of your completed project. For retainer clients, the full monthly fee is due at the start of each month. I accept payment via PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle.

Proofreading is priced per word, so longer manuscripts are calculated at the same rate.

For beta reading, manuscripts over 100,000 words may require a custom quote. Just reach out, and we’ll figure out the right pricing for your project.

I understand that investing in your manuscript is a big deal, especially as an indie author. Payment plans are available on a case-by-case basis. Just mention it when you reach out, and we’ll work something out that feels manageable for you.

About Working Together

What if I'm not happy with the feedback?

My goal is always to give you honest, thoughtful, useful feedback. If something is unclear or you’d like me to expand on a specific point, I offer one round of revisions within 7 days of delivery.

While I can’t guarantee you’ll agree with every observation, I can guarantee that everything I give you comes from a genuine, careful read of your work.

I’m happy to talk it over with you if you’re not happy, though.

My client agreement includes a confidentiality clause that protects your manuscript and project details. If you’d feel more comfortable with a separate NDA, I’m happy to sign one. Just send it over before we get started.

It depends on the service. For proofreading, absolutely. Since it’s priced per word, and the context doesn’t necessarily matter, you’re welcome to send just the chapters you need reviewed.

For beta reading, I ask for the full manuscript. To give you meaningful feedback on plot, pacing, and character arc, I need to experience your story from beginning to end.

Still Have Questions?

I’m happy to chat before you commit to anything. Just reach out, and I’ll get back to you within two business days.
